- International Driver's License (IDP): It's recommended to have an IDP with the appropriate category for motorcycles (Category A) or smaller bikes (Category A1). With a Category A license, you can drive small-sized bikes.
- Cost and Application: To legalize your driver's license in Vietnam, you'll need to pay a fee of 135,000 VND and complete an application form. Make sure to have a valid Vietnamese visa for at least 3 months.
- Visit the City Transportation Department: Go to the city transportation department to proceed with the legalization process. You'll need to bring the following documents:
- a. Original passport with a Vietnamese visa
- b. Original driver's license
- c. Notarized copy of your passport (including the page with the visa) valid for at least 3 months
- d. Notarized copy of your existing driver's license
- e. 3 passport-sized photos (4x6 cm)
- f. Completed application form (provided by the department)
- Processing Time: After submitting the required documents, it usually takes 5-7 days to receive your legalized driver's license.
There are two options available:
- Temporary Driving License: You can apply for a temporary driving license, allowing you to drive legally in Vietnam for a limited period.
- Convert Your Existing License: If you already have a driver's license from your home country, you can convert it into a Vietnamese driver's license.
